At Moondance, we grow & design seasonal wedding flowers in Northern Michigan, with every wedding beginning with a thoughtful direction shaped by your colors, your venue, your priorities and the feeling you want your celebration to have. Inspiration images are incredibly helpful. They can tell us that you love airy movement, saturated color, soft pastels, unexpected textures or arrangements that feel loose and garden-inspired. They can show us the scale you are drawn to, the shapes you love and the overall feeling you want your flowers to create.
What they are not is a shopping list.
If you bring us a photo of someone else’s bouquet, our goal is not to count the stems and rebuild it flower for flower. Instead, we look at why you love it. Maybe it’s the color story. Those are the details we carry forward while creating something that belongs to you. Because your wedding is happening in a different place, during a different week, with different flowers blooming in the field. Your design should reflect that.

A flower farm changes constantly. The exact mix available one week can look completely different from what is blooming two weeks later. A favorite variety may suddenly be at its absolute peak, an unexpected color combination might appear in the field, or a branch, vine or textural element may be especially beautiful that week and become the detail that makes an arrangement unforgettable.
That is part of the magic. Rather than trying to force the field to produce an exact list of ingredients, we design with the best flowers that particular moment has to offer.

What flowers can help us capture the feeling this couple described?
Working this way opens the door to varieties, shapes and combinations you may never have thought to request by name. Maybe you imagined one particular flower carrying the design, but something else is blooming spectacularly that week and creates the same feeling even more beautifully.

The venue becomes part of the floral story

We saw this come to life beautifully at Nell & Evan’s Watervale Inn wedding, where the colors of the cottages and the relaxed lakeside setting became part of the floral inspiration. Rather than bringing in a design that competed with the property, the flowers reflected it.

Cohesive does not mean identical
Another reason we do not work from strict recipes is that a wedding feels more natural when every arrangement is part of the same story without being a carbon copy. Your bouquet does not need to be a miniature version of your ceremony flowers. Every bud vase does not need the exact same three stems. Every bouquet does not need to have identical flowers positioned in identical places. Instead, we build cohesion through color, texture, movement and repetition.
A particular flower might appear in your bouquet and then show up again in a ceremony installation. A color from your bridesmaid dresses might appear subtly throughout the reception. A trailing element used in one design may become a recurring texture elsewhere.
Everything relates to each other without becoming overly matched. The result feels intentional, layered and alive.
