It’s a marvelous night for a Moondance…

Where does our name come from? Well, the song Moondance by Van Morrison was our first dance song at our wedding. On August 10th, we will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary! Neither of us remembers exactly why we chose Moondance as our song, except that we knew we needed a jazzy song for fun choreography for our first dance. See, dancing is how we really fell in love. Farmer Lindsay grew up dancing her whole life, and she also danced on the college dance team at Albion College, where we met. Every year around Valentine’s Day, the dance team performed a fun partner dance. One year, Farmer Lindsay asked Farmer Mark to be her partner, aka spend hours of his free time for several weeks practicing routines to Michael Jackson songs in the gymnasium basement. Turns out, they had a blast, and soon after realized they’d like to be dance partners for a long time. And well, the rest is history!

Neither of us has an agricultural background or formal horticulture training. Neither of us has family or roots in Northern Michigan. We’re a lawyer and a nurse by training, who have lived in cities since we graduated from college. How we landed on a flower farm starting a new business is still a bit of a mystery to us. We were inexplicably called to the farm that we now call Moondance, we just knew it was special and had to be our home, our community, when we first saw it. So it only felt fitting that we name the farm after a song so special to us, a song that represents love and joy, and that we were also inexplicably called towards.

We have poured lots of love into the farm since we arrived in January, and we hope it shows! Our goal is for you to walk away from every interaction with Moondance, whether on or off the farm, full of joy and excitement for what’s ahead. We hope our story inspires you to dive into whatever new adventure awaits for you too!

We’re looking forward to whatever is in store the next ten years, and feel so lucky that we get to share our love of flowers together with you!

XO, Farmers Lindsay & Mark
